π΅ Let me be your only loveeeee! π΅ When I tell you that that song is stuck in my head at least once a month, I’m NOT kidding! Which is why I decided I had to dress up as Thumbelina! Or, I guess, I stumbled upon the design code on Pinterest and then totally freaked out and then decided I would dress up as her in October. π
It’s funny because growing up, I always thought this was a Disney movie…but nope! It may not be a Disney movie, but the beautiful voice of Thumbelina is the same actress who was Ariel’s voice in The Little Mermaid! They’re totally intertwined (in my head).
In case you haven’t seen this movie (which came out in 1994 btw), Thumbelina is this tiny cute girl the size of a thumb (obviously) who was born inside a flower and somehow skipped the baby and kid phase and was born as, what seems to be, a teenager? Her mom did wish for her and her wish came true so I guess that’s all that matters. π
One night, a fairy prince named Cornelius, who is the size of…. yes, you guessed it, a thumb, stumbles into her house after hearing her beautiful singing voice (I don’t blame him, her voice is stunning). Then, they fly around under the beautiful night sky on a bumble bee and fall in love. π₯°
After this, Thumbelina gets kidnapped/persuaded/manipulated multiple times by vile creatures such as a frog, a beetle, and a mole. They all fall in love with her, of course! Luckily, she is able to get away each time.
The only frog amiibo I had was Ribbot. Literally the least frog, frog amiibo ever. π He’s a freakin robot!
So, the beetle who falls in love with Thumbelina tells her that he will show her the way back home ONLY if she performs at the famous “Beetle Ball”. She wears a bug disguise which eventually falls off….
And then the whole crowd is yelling at her, telling her how ugly she is π so rude!
The beetle then starts to think that Thumbelina is ugly and decides not to help her anymore. π«£
Poor Thumbelina!
But, as with all 90s magical, princess movies, the story does have a happy ending. Hooray! After encountering the mole, almost marrying him, and thinking Prince Cornelius died (he fell into a frozen pond but was later thawed by friendly little insects :), she then gets rescued by Cornelius who fights the frog, mole and beetle! Alas, they finally reunite and get married! ππ»
And best of all…. she finally gets her own pair of wings. πͺ½π₯²
Phew, this movie is…. A LOT to take in. It’s cute and the music is fun, but it can get kind of dark and really sad at times. I just feel so bad for Thumbelina and how much she gets taken advantage of. Also, I really didn’t mean for this to be a movie review. π€£ I hope at least it was enjoyable! If you don’t ever watch the movie, you should at least listen to “Let me be your wings”. π
