A Little 90s Throwback: dELiA*s Catalog 📸 🦋

I think one of the most enjoyable (and pretty hilarious) pastimes is looking through vintage magazines. It’s crazy to see how much fashion has changed over the years, and in my opinion, the most memorable decade was the 1990s (especially for those of us who grew up around this time 😄), specifically the late 90s. One of the most iconic magazines during that time was Delia’s. Delia’s was a lifestyle brand that sold clothing and accessories, and their demographic was mainly tweens and teens. Their peak may not have lasted very long (mostly late 90s and early 2000s), but Delia’s will forever live rent free in the minds of so many girlies that were born throughout the 80s and 90s!

So, I did what any nostalgic and animal-crossing-obsessed person would do: create a Delia’s photoshoot! Duh! Photopia is and will always be one of the most amazing parts of this game, I swear. 😂

Behind the Scenes ✌🏻

Our studio for the day! It’s simple and cute… two words I pretty much live by (life being simple and cute really is the way to go!).

I asked Fauna if she can help take the photos and she couldn’t have been more excited! Did I ask her if she knew how to use a camera? No, but I knew she’d figure it out. 🤣

Lolly decided to just tag along (no complaints!) so I made her in charge of the clothes. I already picked out most of the outfits so she was just making sure everything was organized, but if she wanted to give any input, I was all ears. 🙂

Here’s a little glimpse at how the actual photoshoot went down!

Yes, those are bubble machines! They didn’t make it in the actual photos, but it was a fun thing to have during the shoot.

The poses were immaculate. 🤣 Just wait until you see the final images!

Having a giggle fest! This was all for fun and never serious! Words I also tend to live by. 😇

That’s right, Lolly joined me in some of the photos! A photoshoot with one of your besties while your other bestie is the photographer!? What a dream!

Taking a tiny break. Being a model is hard work, y’all! 😆

Fauna was happy to be behind the camera, however, I just couldn’t help but want her to be in at least a few photos, even if they’re just for us!

Fauna and Lolly are the best! We’re a dream team. 💖

I’ve always enjoyed looking at behind-the-scenes photos and videos just as much as the final edit of whatever media I’m consuming! It’s so fun to see all of the different components that help create the vision. 🤗 This photoshoot was such a blast. I edited the photos to make them appear like a magazine page from Delia’s, and added any links to the actual photos of the magazine which inspired certain looks (I also added some of my lovely commentary). I hope you enjoy!

dELiA*s Catalog

Our first glorious magazine cover which was inspired by the 1999 Holiday issue. And of course, I had to add a few subtle “animal crossing” touches. 🤭

Me and Lolly are both wearing snowy knit caps! She’s also wearing an olive puffy vest, while I’m wearing a navy & red down ski jacket. For bottoms, I’m wearing white denim painter’s pants and brown lace-up boots!

Also, one thing I must absolutely and gladly address: the uppercase and lowercase letters… just something that dELiA*s did oh so well. 😂

IcOniC qUoTes

Oh man, where to even begin! Another thing that Delia’s did besides use the Caps Lock button too much, was add a bunch of random quotes. I guess the item name, price, and description just wasn’t enough!

The quotes were rather…. interesting. Here’s an example: “More handy than a truck full of carpenters. More necessary than air. More elemental than H20”. I mean, sure? 😂

The quotes were so ridiculous but they somehow worked and honestly, I still love them!

If you’re wondering if these quotes came straight out of the magazines, they didn’t! Even better, they’re from our very own Pascal. Yup, that Pascal, the sea otter who likes to give his two cents on whatever’s on his mind.

You’ve got to admit, his quotes are ICONIC! Delia’s can take a run for his scallops. 🤣

This website has every single quote from Pascal. It’s worth giving it a scroll. Trust me, you won’t regret it!

Butterflies & Peasant Tops

You can’t ever go wrong with a graphic tee, especially if it has a butterfly on it! I don’t know why, but butterflies on everything (remember those butterfly hair clips!?) was such a thing in the late 90s.

Here’s the inspiration for this outfit, as well as the code for the butterfly tee! I’m also wearing black denim painter’s pants and ribbon sandals.

There’s nothing like a peasant blouse and beige cargo pants combo. 👌🏻 😆 It’s a cute look! I’m also wearing black steel-toed boots.

Btw, I feel like some of these things never really went out of style? I mean, 90s fashion did have a resurgence a while ago. Where are we now with fashion comebacks, the 2010’s? 🤣

The More Stripes, The Better!

Okay, are stripes strictly a 90s thing? No, not really, but a striped tee was EVERYTHING back then. Maybe still everything even today. I guess there’s a reason why they say stripes are a “timeless” pattern.

This look was one of my faves! The model in this outfit just oozed effortless, cool-girl vibes!

I’m wearing a colorful striped sweater, navy blue denim painter’s pants, a retro sports bag, and rubber-toe sneakers (converse!).

This look wasn’t inspired by a particular outfit from the catalog, but rather, the clothing items that were super popular during that time! AKA cargo pants (green ones this time! or “avocado” in acnh haha) and a striped tee. This one has only a few stripes in the center, and it’s rainbow 🥰 (very 70s inspired, actually).

The shoes I’m wearing are gray high-tops!

Give Me a Good Hat Any Day

Here we have another fabulous cover! It was from their 1999 Spring issue and it was too cute to not recreate. My favorite part of this outfit is for sure the hat (it’s the patchwork tulip hat).

Also, who wouldn’t want a FREE cd with their order!? What an awesome freebie. 😜

Bucket hats were totally a 90s and y2k moment! I feel like you either love them or hate them. Me? I’m a fan, as long as the color and pattern is cute. 😚

I’m also wearing a blue loungewear shirt, some corduroy pants, and converse.

A Slightly Grunge Moment

We can’t talk about the 90s without mentioning a little grunge! When I think of grunge, I picture chunky black boots (think Dr. Martens!), some kind of flannel or plaid pattern, and jeans with tons of rips and tears. 😂

I’m wearing berry red tweed pants that appear to have some sort of faint tartan or checkered pattern, and I paired it with this black tight-knit sweater. I finished it off with black lace-up boots! I would probably categorize this as “soft” grunge. 😆

The checkered school pants or punk pants would also look really cool. Here’s the inspo. 😎

Long Live the Skirts!

My goodness, I think this may be my favorite outfit from the entire shoot, and it was the most spontaneous one as well!

The floral pattern on this adorable top (the garden tank) gives me Mary-Kate and Ashley vibes, or even Lizzie McGuire vibes! I randomly decided to pair it with this pink cut-pleather skirt and green flip-flops. I kept thinking how this look reminded me of something….. or someone. Then, it came to me! This is SOOO giving Mandy Moore in the “Candy” music video (yellow cami with green-blue skirt). I think this hairstyle just adds to it as well. I’m obsessed!!

You made it to the final look! This one was also randomly put together, although, I’m sure there’s probably a model wearing a similar outfit in one of the many Delia’s catalogs floating around out there. 😅 Or even in some other magazine from the 90s!

I gotta say, I’ve never been a huge fan of long skirts, but now I’m kind of loving them! I’m wearing a beige long plaid skirt, black cardigan-shirt, and a purple hand-knit pouch. Does this outfit sort of count as grunge? I feel like anything plaid in the 90s was!

More Content

I decided to put some of these photos together and create a fun Youtube short! And guess what? Each photo has a completely different quote by Pascal. 🫣 Yup, I really decided to add a bunch of different quotes because he just has so many and they’re too good to not use!!!! So go check it out if you’d like. It also includes one of the best songs by the Spice Girls! ✨ What’s more 90s than that?!

Check out my Pinterest as well! A lot of the photos are on there. 😇
