I think anyone who has ever heard of Alfred Hitchcock (I feel like most people at least know his name lol), will only probably think of his movies, and I don’t blame ya! Since this is my blog, I will be totally honest: I have never seen an Alfred Hitchcock movie! 🫣 I know, I know, but don’t throw tomatoes at me just yet!
It wasn’t until a few years ago that I discovered Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Alfred Hitchcock Hour. Not movies, but anthology shows. Kind of in the realm of The Twilight Zone (😉)! Think psychological drama, suspense, some comedy, some spookiness, etc.
This is way, WAY more up my alley and I couldn’t tell you how happy I was when I discovered these Alfred Hitchcock shows (one is 30 minutes long, and the other is an hour long… guess which is which 😆). I still have a few more episodes to catch up on, but I really enjoy those shows!
One of the most popular and well done episodes is called “Lamb to the Slaughter”. This episode is originally a story by Roald Dahl. I believe there are a few other episodes written by him. Shout out to Roald!
I really don’t want to give much away even though this show is 60+ years old (that’s crazy), but one night, a husband enters his home and tells his wife he wants to divorce her. She doesn’t really know how to react…..so she…..kills him. 😵💫
She quickly hides any evidence and makes up a story of how he died. Of course, cops and detectives enter the home to do an investigation. The one thing they can’t seem to figure out is how he was killed…..
Or with what?! Right before the woman killed her husband, she told him she was going to make lamb and proceeded to take it out of the freezer…. 🫡
Let’s just say that the cops and detectives had quite a delicious meal that night. 🫢
This next episode, called “Banquo’s Chair”, caught my attention because it’s one of the rare episodes that involve… paranormal elements. 👻 And we love that over here!
There was an unsolved murder in this very dining room a while ago. Since then, the new home owner and the detective on that case became friends. The detective has a feeling he knows who killed the old woman who use to live in that house, but he needs the man to confess!
So what does he do? Well, he decides to create an elaborate plan to scare the man into confessing he murdered the old woman. He plans on doing this by inviting the man over for dinner one night, and then hiring an actress that looks like the old woman, to play…. her ghost! Excellent plan, if you ask me. 🤓
Oh… there she is! Man, that is spooky. What a great actress.
He was scared out of his mind! And yes, the plan ended up working so everything went according to plan, right?
Well…. sort of. Come to find out, the actress actually never showed up on time. She arrived just as the man was arrested. So, who was the old woman then? 👻 Creepy….
Okay, I know I confessed about never having seen a Hitchcock movie, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know of them! In fact, I know that shower scene from Psycho pretty well.
*iconic Psycho string music starts playing*
There’s something about a movie or show being in black and white that makes it so much more suspenseful and creepy!
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my Alfred Hitchcock post! Tomorrow will be equally just as great. 😉
